When Dave Burke, engineering manager at Android was on the stage of the Google I / O last summer, he described the new version of Android as the biggest update of the mobile operating system that has ever been created by Google.
Now people can see what it returns, as the Mountain View giant began distributing Android 5.0 Lollipop recently, at least for those who have a Nexus device.
Google distributing Android 5.0 Lollipop
The biggest change coming with Lollipop is what Google calls the “Material Design” a much more streamlined interfaces that which we are accustomed for many years designing style. Even though your device is not updated to Android Lollipop, you’ve probably seen passing new Google update applications on your device. Indeed, the company recently released updates to its own applications such as Google Play Music, or Gmail and Google Calendar, including integrating the new design guidelines imposed by Lollipop. The most notable change was the arrival of Inbox, a truly amazing application in this area.
According to the company, the new operating system comes with several other applications developed by third party developers and companies that already provide support to Material Design, including the Wall Street Journal, Tumblr, BuzzFeed. Indeed, the company has provided a heads up a few months before the update, a developer preview release, giving developers time to radically change the interface of their applications to get it ready for launch.
“While we first introduced material design this summer, today’s updates are just the beginning of delivering a modern design language for the next wave of devices in your life.” wrote the company on its blog.
Lollipop also offers improved autonomy, adds enhanced notifications on the screen unlock feature and “personal lock” which allows your Android device to unlock another.
Google’s own devices, such as the recent Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will be the first to get the new operating system, but all the older models, including the Nexus 7, the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4 Nexus 5 should quickly follow after this update – perhaps even in the day. Then updates will be pushed by manufacturers but we have to be surely more patient to see the updated on all other devices.
