Apps. There are now virtually millions of apps dedicated to any and every niche imaginable. And with this recent surge in communication technology, the way we interact with each other (and the speed!) has rapidly changed.
Each year, millions of apps are downloaded on to our tablets and smartphones. Some are for fun and others are for work but what if you could download an app that could potentially save your life? Smartphones have been referred to as life savers in the past, but could they?
Worldwide, there have been an astonishing amount of calamities from earthquakes to mass shootings. Taking all of these disasters into consideration, there is now a great need for the development of speedy and effective methods of commencing relief efforts as well as helping with disaster recovery. Increasingly, app developers have taken this on board and developed new communication apps that will help the public when a disaster occurs.
Communication apps have had an increased effect on both our family and personal safety. These ingenious apps can help us when an accident occurs and can even track natural disasters before they occur. These apps can also track severe weather events and dangerous international occurrences. The Disaster Alert app created by the Pacific Disaster Centre gives mobile access to multi-hazard monitoring of as well as early warning for active hazards all over the world.
Life360 is an app that allows you and your friends and/or family to create a private network. In case of an emergency, a simple tap of a button will inform your friends/family whether you are safe or not and your current location.
When time is of the essence, it can be difficult to know which apps are the most effective and which apps could leave you stranded in a scary and potentially dangerous situation.
