The idea of texting, ruled our technological and mobile world for over decades. Telecommunication companies around the world have won billions worth of revenue through the use of constant texting by users, in order to interact with their folks and loved ones. The use of texting as the secondary means to communicate after a phone call, was much more when the social media and networking over the internet wasn’t really in the picture. Fast forward to present day, we have tons of applications that have substituted the use of text messaging service and has made life so much easier as well as cheaper for mobile phone users.
There are hundreds of free available solutions to contact people through the use of the internet and other connectivity services, without really focusing on the texting service. Two of those applications that have been ruling around the smart phone world are WhatsApp and Viber. These two applications are probably the ones you download right when you open your new phone; this is the kind of penetration the applications have developed over the period of time now. With the rise in the use of smart phones, instant messaging apps as they are called like WhatsApp and Viber are now the necessity of anyone’s life. Our blog will post today, four distinct highlights of both instant messaging giants.
Compatibility and Applicability
When we talk about a messenger like WhatsApp, it bursts into the scene much before Viber did. This is why the compatibility factor of WhatsApp is much enhanced than Viber. You will see some of the old phones of Nokia, where WhatsApp had a tailor made limited function messenger for people to install on their phones, while Viber’s compatibility starts with a middle range smart phone that can support multiple functions at once. For Viber, even to work on phones like the iPhone you need to have an IOS support of greater than 3, which means the old iPhones also do not support the use and functions of application like Viber.
Interface and User Experience
Another major difference between the two applications is their interface and overall user experience. Since WhatsApp is traditionally an application, used by almost everyone as the substitute of text messaging, the message part of the app has great variety in terms of design, functions, typing and overall look. While Viber is more towards free calling, users do not prefer the user interface and functions of messaging in this app. Viber’s user interface comes with a branded blue and white color, while WhatsApp’s basic interface is orange and white with customizable backgrounds.
Price and Availability
Initially WhatsApp was free to download everywhere on every platform, but now for iPhones it requires users to pay a small payment of yearly subscription which is $0.99. Viber has been and still is a free app to download across the platforms.
Updates and Security
Both applications are now pretty secured as well as have close to zero security breaches in terms of hacking passwords or registrations. WhatsApp as an app has frequent updates making it much better every time, but still does not have the free call option to go for.
