Our latest gadget review goes out into the wildlife of capturing domestic and undomestic animal species with the following battery-powered camera gadget. If you live in one of the larger cities in your country with limited availability of parks, nature and wildlife, then the following gadget will not be much of interest for you. But, if you are lucky to call a garden your own – and if it is for lease only – then, you maybe already wanted to know what wildlife animals – including neighbor cats – are patrolling your ground at day or night time. The wildlife trail camera from Wosports makes it possible to find out what is going on in terms of wildlife and other animals when humans are not around.
So let’s do an un-boxing and have a look what this pretty camera gadget contains of.
Un-Boxing
The wildlife camera is delivered in a paper box that includes the camera itself together with a mini USB connection cable and mounting wires to be able to mount the camera at a tree or suitable fix position to monitor passing animals by motion and heat sensors.
With the wildlife camera, the following items are included:
- Trail camera from Wosports itself
- a large battery case that can hold 4 or 8 AA batteries
- a mini USB cable used for data transfer
- a manual for users
- camera mounting equipment, screws and tools
Feature Specification
The following features make the product interesting and versatile in terms of various usage purposes. The camera contains hardware sensors for heat and motion detection that gives the product the ability to track the heat of an animal by a passive infra-red sensor (PIR) at night time and without optical light and by motion (movement). Both sensors combined, decrease the failure rate of false alarms significantly.
Let’s see all specification highlights as follows:
- IP54 waterproof camera with 5 Megapixel sensor (equal to an image of 2592 x 1994 pixels)
- Motion and heat (PIR) sensors for day and night capturing (automatic switching)
- Battery-powered by 4 or 8 AA batteries (batteries not included in package)
- Stand-by time is roughly 3 months (with 4 AA batteries) to 4 months (with 8 AA batteries)
- 1.44″ color LCD monitor on the front (used to view recorded images/videos and to adjust the camera after mounting)
- 60° FOV lens
- 28 Infra-red LEDs with an PIR angle of 45° and a range of 15 meters (used at night when no visual light is present)
- Alarm triggers within 1 second and for a distance up to 15m (PIR and motion)
- Creates JPEG photos when used in image mode
- Records AVI videos when used in video mode with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio)
- Contains a SD/SDHC memory slot for a SD card with up to 32 GB (SD card is not included in package)
Handling
To activate the camera gadget, the user has to insert 4 or 8 batteries into the internal case and add an empty formatted SD card as internal storage device first. With batteries and SD card, the camera is ready to be used. An interesting mounting position is the key to success when it comes to capturing wildlife animals in nature. Included within the installation package are tools to mount the camera at a tree or solid ground. The position should also be hidden so that passing pedestrians will not see and find the camera easily. In other words, protect the camera against possible thieves by hiding it as good as possible. Please keep in mind, that at night time, one can visually see and notice the red LED light from PIR sensor.
Follow these steps to active the wildlife camera gadget:
- Insert 4 or 8 fully charged batteries into the internal battery case
- Insert a formatted SD/SDHC memory card with up to 32 GB capacity
- Find a suitable position to monitor wildlife and mount the camera using the included mounting tools
- Active the camera by selecting the video or camera mode
- Check the front LCD monitor panel and finally adjust the camera focus view
- With these steps above, the camera is active and will capture any motion and/or heat alarm trigger
- Check the captured images/video frequently by taking out the SD memory card or by connecting the mini USB cable
My recorded wildlife images
Having tested the camera for about 2 weeks now, here’s a selection of the captured images in my garden:
Summary
Reviewing and testing this wildlife trail camera from Wosports came with joy and great curiousness about what we will find on the captured images after a testing period of roughly 2 weeks out in the wild. Fortunately, the camera was still at the mounted position where we put it into place. We chose to monitor a popular position at our garden pond where all kinds of animals like birds and cats take a break and watch the fish. Luckily, a young fox made its way to the pond and was captured by the PIR sensor at 1:26 AM. The images recorded at night time are good enough to show what’s going on. For the price of $59.99 – the trail camera is a good choice for all users who are curious to monitor wildlife activity.
