The Windows Phone 8 is poised to bring an entire new meaning to the phrase mobile gaming. The Windows Phone 8 development team kept gaming and game developers in mind when they were creating their new phone. They want to make it possible for gamers to have many of the features that they enjoy on their PC available on their mobile device. This is why they based the operating system off of the PC Windows version of the operation system.

Currently the Windows Phone 8 is in the developmental stage. They just recently allowed developers access to their preview, so that developers could apply for rights to develop programs for the model. Currently the Windows Phone 8 will only review a few private applicants and allow them to see the SDK, for it is not yet publicly available simply due to the fact that there are many features that have not become public knowledge as of yet.

The reason that Windows Phone 8 is allowing any access at all is because they would like for developers to come up with apps or games that work exclusively with the Windows Phone 8 makeup. They also would like for current popular games to make adaptations to their current apps and games so that they can be downloaded to the phone upon its release.

Many people are wondering if holding back the SDK is a good idea. Developers need ample time to develop their apps and work out any kinks in the system. This means that a lot of developers may not have their apps ready for the Windows Phone 8 upon its release. The lack of apps that are available on a phone could be detrimental to its popularity.

New Features

Samsung, HTC, Nokia, & Huawei will all be launching their own Windows Phone 8 powered handsets. Currently HTC, Samsung, and Nokia are the only ones that have released sample models of their handsets, and some of those released will both allow for Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10.

The Window 8 app store is quickly building up their library which currently holds under a quarter of a million apps. All of the favorites are available, and any game apps that were purchased for Windows 7 will currently work in the Windows 8 phones. Windows has turned their focus onto their apps knowing that they need to have a solid library before the release.

There are many new and exciting features that the Windows 8 will allow that will battle those of the iPhone. One of the more exciting features is Microsoft wallet. You just simply open the application and press your phone against the magnetic strip on your credit or debit card and it will enter the information so that you have a secure way to make purchases online or purchase apps for the phone.

Skype is getting a makeover. Sure current phones have Skype, but it will be a better working application with a lot of benefits that you would generally want to use the “big” computer to conduct. Skype will become more user friendly, and will have a better pictures as well as increased quality.

Gamers will want to pay attention to this line; the Windows 8 will have better graphics. The description of the graphics state that many of the games will have a 3D style feel to them. The only downside is that these games will most likely drain the battery much faster. The Windows Phone 8 is set to release sometime in November, just in time for the holidays.
