After being recently acquired by Google, Motorola is entering a new era. The influence of Google on Moto is just showing up making sure that Moto becomes the best of its kind. Motorola has launched its XT926 DROID RAZR HD phone which comes with a wall charger, push pin to open memory card slot and SIM, user guides and a detachable microUSB cable card.
Design
DROID RAZR HD is an updated version of DROID RAZR and so has adopted some of its features. It is quite natural to have similar features among brothers; however, DROID RAZR HD has its own identity. The increase in display and battery size has given the phone a larger look but still manages to fit comfortably in to the hands or pockets. The capacitive buttons which have a dedicated place below the display is replaced with on-screen buttons. The 1.3mp front camera is positioned above the display and the LED notification button is placed below the Motorola label. The color of the LED is bright and immediately grabs the attention when activated. The left side of the device has a hidden door that can be opened using the safety pin or push-pin. The door has the SIM and microSD card within itself. You might feel a little awkward when you are opening the door for the first time. The microUSB and microHDMI ports are on the left side of DROID RAZR HD. The right side is featured with volume rocker and power or lock key. These keys can be identified with a gentle touch- volume rocker has raised ends and power key has the unique ridged surface. The rear side of the phone has a stylish look with curves at the sides. The top of DROID RAZR HD is packed with headset jack, LED flash, external speaker, 8mp camera and a noise cancellation mic.
Display
The main enhancement that DROID RAZR HD has is the super AMOLED 4.7” display with a resolution of 720/1280. Images and texts are displayed clearly and they appear less jagged. The super AMOLED display peps up the colors and makes the pictures and videos more attractive. The display when viewed from the sides shows bright pictures and might be a little difficult to view in sunlight.
Interface
DROID RAZR HD operates on Android Ice Cream Sandwich and not Jelly Bean. However, Motorola promises to update the operating system to Jelly Bean by the end of this year. Motorola has not done any changes to the interface which is disappointing. The advanced features which are found in some smartphones like Popup Play, SmartStay, S Beam, Screen Zooming, Qslide, Wisescreen and others have been skipped. In fact, the new thing about this phone is the presence of on-screen buttons. Though this idea is good, it occupies certain amount of space on the display. So, when you are surfing the web, playing a game or viewing an image the entire screen cannot be used because of the buttons.
Functionality
There is nothing special worth mentioning about the organizer apps because the phone uses the Android apps. So the Calendar, Calculator, Clock and others have nothing new added to them. Setting up an email app and Gmail app is not a tedious task. All one requires to complete the procedure is e-address and password. You can also manually setup Verizon.net, Microsoft Exchange, IMAP and POP3 accounts. The on screen keyboard is much easier to handle than one could imagine.
Processor & Memory
DROID RAZR HD comes with 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 MSM8960 dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. This is similar to Samsung Galaxy S III except that Samsung has twice the RAM. The phone works much fast when toggling between the home screens, app drawer, and opening applications. DROID RAZR HD has 16GB of internal storage and the memory card can be expanded up to 64GB which adds to your storage space.
Internet Connectivity
RAZR HD is preloaded with Google chrome which is not a surprise. Other browsers can also be loaded if required. Though the phone does not support Adobe Flash, the internet connectivity that you get at all times is satisfying.
Battery
RAZR HD surprises with its 2530mAh battery which is capable to withstand 14hours of talk time and 3 days of multiple usage when completely charged.
Conclusion
If you are looking to purchase an Android smartphone your choices will have to revolve around Samsung Galaxy S III and Motorola DROID RAZR HD. These phones come with larger displays and faster processors. DROID RAZR HD is designed to overcome the practical difficulties with a Gorilla Glass, Kevlar backing and a nano coating to protect the device from water. The nano coating is done inside the phone which is a brilliant idea. It is interesting to see Motorola DROID RAZR HD in the market with bright colors. Let’s wait and see how it competes with other phones that are all set to run the race.

How is the reception and speakerphone? Surprisingly the Galaxy S III is good but not great.
