When we go deeper into the Android custom ROM scene, we already reviewed the famous CyanogenMOD in details which is the commly most known customization project for Android mods today. Followed by this candidate, other Android custom projects spread out of the ground. Paranoid Android and the stylish Carbon Droid are separate and independent projects. One further ROM candidate today is Android SlimBean. What this mod is all about, will be the topic of the following article in our series of Custom ROMs for Android.

Look and Feel

Throwing a detailed look on the overall design given by the default theme of the SlimBean mod offers a clean dark system style. The phone desktop background dominates the black and dark brown colors with a white text font on the surface. This is nice for readers eyes but a potential issue with sunlight outside and even inside a building. Let’s see whether this is an issue in daily life after our detailed test phase with the final resume.

Unique Features of SlimBean

The name suggested that this mod comes with “slim” features but this is not the case! SlimBean comes with a wide range of unique mod features like PIE controls, shortcuts and unique lockscreen. All colors within the entire ROM can be inverted to color scheme including GApps and any other installed application. All official features of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean are supported and can be actived manually on demand.

SlimBean Performance

With its slim concept comes high performance. We didn’t see many other Android ROMs so far, that were so fast in navigating. Starting an installed apps reacts immediately without any delay felt for the phone user. This especially works great on older or even outdated Android devices like the first Galaxy phones now.

Installation

The installation process is the same as for all other Android custom ROM installations. Please follow these basic steps to ensure successful installation and data security of your personal information:

1. Complete a full backup of your device (This is always the first step before doing major changes like flashing your phone ROM!)
2. Download the latest ROM source from official website or here from us
3. Use the Android app ROM Manager to flash and install the selected ROM
4. Follow and wait the instructions provided by setup process
5. Let the system reboot and hope that it comes up to life again 🙂
6. If you encounter any issues, let us know! We help you through installation
