High Quality Telecom Services: Myth and Reality

A wide range of providers claim to offer high quality telecom services but this may in fact be more of a myth than reality. Ascertaining whether or not this degree of quality is genuinely accessible is crucial when making a selection from the multitude of providers. There are also a number of other factors that should be considered, including cost and the availability of package deals.

Assessing the quality of telecom services is based on several different elements, including customer care and support, effectiveness of technical provision and additional benefits, such as security and loyalty perks.

Firstly, it is necessary to look at the range of providers on offer and to identify the level of quality that they profess to offer. This can then be compared with the views of those who have had real world experience of using these providers to see if that quality is a reality or merely a myth. The main landline telecom service providers in the UK are BT, Sky and Virgin, with smaller provision via companies such as TalkTalk, Primus Saver and Plusnet. Mobile communications providers include O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile and many of these also offer pay as you go mobile broadband.

Firstly, BT is, without doubt, the nation’s largest telecom service provider with ownership of the majority of lines throughout the UK. This sheer scale allows BT to offer a comprehensive service with some form of telecom provision available in all but the most remote parts of the country. It also enables the firm to continually work at improving the quality of connections and other services.

The quality on offer from other providers differs, depending on a range of circumstances. For example, Sky provides extensive packages including landline phone service and broadband connection. It also has a sizeable television provision, including sports, movies and a vast number of other channels. Although this can mean a more rounded service, it can sometimes cause confusion when attempting to utilise customer support and there are some fees payable if you choose not to take up a full package.

Providers such as Primus Saver and Plusnet prioritise low cost and money-saving deals but, as a result of their smaller scale, are sometimes unable to provide a fully quality service. Some corners may be cut in order to keep the price down. If cost is of the greatest importance to you as a consumer, then these providers may be an ideal choice but quality is often sacrificed and thus real value for money cannot be assured.

In terms of mobile providers, quality varies significantly. In some cases, the size of the provider is a key factor in ascertaining the level of service that you will receive. Vodafone and O2 are the largest mobile providers in the UK, both with decent mobile coverage over the whole of the British Isles.

Orange and T-Mobile have recently joined forces to allow them to deliver a similarly extensive signal. This not applies not only to phone calls and SMS messaging, but also to increasingly critical additions such as pay as you go mobile broadband. These providers often run deals in order to attract new customers and here, more than anywhere, it pays to shop around to be certain of getting the best price. With mobile providers, quality service can be something of a myth but with sufficient research it is possible to find it to some degree.

To conclude, one determining factor that applies to both landline and mobile telecom services is the size of the provider. Although smaller companies may be able to offer a more personal approach, they will often sacrifice quality in order to keep costs down and to attract customers. Larger companies, on the other hand, are able to offer more comprehensive coverage and more advanced technology. However, the needs of the individual customer can become lost among a mass of packages and other more complex options.

In order to assure that quality is more a reality than a myth when seeking telecom services there are several factors to consider. Always look out for UK call centres and 24/7 customer support as this certainly gives a better chance of quality telecom service. In addition, using comparison websites allows you to view the provider with the best price and highest recommendations. Finally, as with any purchase, always read the fine print to make sure you will actually receive the service for which you believe you are signing up.
