The Nokia Lumia 920 was announced several days ago, but it has already managed to win the hearts of many, many geeks and smartphone users. According to the survey conducted by WPCentral last Friday, 81.4% of the 7,568 respondents that took part in the survey give preference to Nokia’s new WP8-based phone over similar devices made by Samsung and HTC.
Meanwhile, 7.76% of the respondents chose the Nokia Lumia 820 that was announced together with the Lumia 920 and has weaker specs. 7.44% voted for the Samsung Ativ S (even though the only thing that is known about it at the moment is its design), and only 3.41% said they’d buy the HTC Accord (also known as the HTC 8X).
A similar result was shown by the survey of PhoneArena that was conducted among 3,903 respondents. To the question “Nokia Lumia 920 vs HTC Accord vs Samsung ATIV S: which one do you like most?” 71.79% voted for the Lumia 920, 20.39% voted for Samsung’s new WP device and only 7.81% preferred the HTC Accord.
So what makes this Lumia 920 so special? Let’s try to understand.
First of all, it seems like the Lumia 920 will have the same design features as its predecessors, the Lumia 800 and 900 that became very popular in a short period of time and won the hearts of professional reviewers and simple buyers alike. However, design alone is not enough to attract attention, so Nokia will most likely arm the Lumia 920 with the revolutionary PureView technology and Nokia Drive turn-by-turn navigation. They say it’ll also come with a 4.5-inch touchscreen (which is the most favorite size among most smartphone users), and the screen resolution will be 768 x 1280 pixels, providing rather high ~332 ppi pixel density. As for the processor, it’ll be a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait. Not a quad-core one, unfortunately, but definitely a very powerful one anyway.
The closest rival of the Lumia 920, the Samsung Ativ S, running the same Windows Phone, has only been seen in a photo, so we don’t know much about its specs yet. The touchscreen seems to be a 4.8-inch one.
As for the HTC Accord, it has a colorful body and a regular shape, so it resembles… the Lumia phones! Perhaps that’s the reason people don’t really like this device yet – it seems to be copied from Nokia’s WP smartphones. And they say it’ll have rather weak specs – this will also make it more difficult to attract attention to this phone while there’s the Lumia 920 out there.
Anyway, several great Windows Phone 8-based devices are coming soon. Maybe it’s time to switch from Android and iOS?
