BOMBAY is one of the busiest cities of India. From many years now, the name Bombay has been changed to Mumbai. This city serves the largest population of the country. It is one of the metropolitan cities, which serves a lot many tourist places for the tourists from all over the world. Bombay is a place for industrialists, as there are many big industries which support India’s economy. This is also the main place for film industry – known as BOLLYWOOD. There are many tourist places and famous travel locations, which are visited by many tourists around the world. We show these famous places to travel and discover India.
Tourist Places in Mumbai
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, commonly known as CST/VT station, is named by Suresh Kalmandi, ex railway minister, in 1996. This station is one of the most visited tourist places in Mumbai. This station has been featured in the song “ye hai Mumbai meri jaan”. And also in the movie – slumdog millionaire. This station is also known as CST or VT station. This is the busiest station, as all long distance and local trains are being served by this station.
CST Station served Terrorist attacks in 2008
This is the station which has served terrorist attacks on November 26, 2008. On this day, two terrorist entered the main hall of the station and started firing on the crowd. One of the terrorist was AJMAL KASAB, who was caught and ordered ‘hang till death’ by the court. Now he is no more. After this attack, this station has become an eye attraction for many of the tourists.
BANDRA – most famous and popular tourist places.
Bandra is located in west Mumbai. This is a place for street shopping, restaurants and pubs. This place has sea fronts, which are located along carter road, bandstand. This is a residential place for many of the bollywood stars, who live in bandstand, carter road and areas like Pali Hill.
There is a mile walkway along the sea, which is on the west side of Bandra, known as bandstand promenade. This spot is a very popular tourist place, and for local people, this place serves as a jogging track, park and for lovers, it is a lover point. This is r really very nice spot for a hangout.
This is a tourist attraction place because of the reason that there are very expensive bungalows in bandstand, and most of these belong to bollywood stars which include – Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Katrina Kaif, and a lot more. There is Bandra-Worli sea link, which is being viewed from Taj lands end as you go at the end of the road.
Mumbai is very much famous during rains, in every monsoon. The kind of scenic view you get during monsoon season, is a very mush attracted by tourists. The kind of view you get during monsoon in band stand is enjoyed by all the people including tourists, local residents and also by all the bollywood stars, who live nearby.
Essel World – a theme park.
Essel World is basically a theme park. This is referred to as India’s largest amusement and Water Park as it is spread over an area of about 64 acres of land. This is the only amusement park in India which obeys international standards. That is why it is also referred to as Asia’s largest theme park.
In this theme park, there are a lot of rides for every age group. It records an estimate of 1.8 million visitors annually. Mumbai’s first ice skating ring is made here only, which is being maintained at a constant 4*c temp. Essel world includes all type of rides in its water kingdom. Along with the rides, there is also a very good arrangement of food as many eating joints and restaurants are there. Here in these eating joints, all type of food is available, which includes south Indian food, north Indian food, Punjabi food, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, etc. and mother dairy desserts.
Film City
Film city is in Goregaon, near Sanjay Gandhi National Park – East Mumbai. Basically it is a film studio complex, with many recording rooms, theatres, gardens, etc. many bollywood shootings have been conducted here.
Haji Ali Dargah
The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and tomb of HAJI ALI which is in the waters of Mahim Bay, in south Mumbai, at the coast of Worli. It is 500 yards off the coast and is also connected with the MahaLaxmi Temple through a small path, which goes into the sea. This is a most visited tourist place as a lot many number of pilgrims come here to see this world famous dargah.
Legends say that, once the saint saw a crying woman with an empty vessel, on the road. When asked about the reason for her cry, she told that she has dropped oil, and she is afraid of her husband from getting scolded. Then the saint put his finger into the soil at the same spot where the oil was splashed, and the oil came out from that spot. Later, Haji Ali felt sick and ill after he dreamt that he had injured the earth. He told his followers to carry his body into Arabian Sea. But the coffin carrying his body floated back to the shore, and that spot is being constructed as HAJI ALI DARGAH. This dargah is being visited by a lot many people on Thursdays and Fridays, and sometimes on Fridays, Qawwali is performed by Sufi musicians.
Elephanta Island
Elephanta Island is11kms away from the shore. This island is very famous for its caves and is one of the most visited tourist places in Mumbai. The Elephanta Caves is only be reached with the help of a ferry, which is available near the Gateway Of India, Mumbai. On Mondays, the cave remains close.
This island has two groups of caves. These caves have been painted in the past. These caves are known for its Hindu sculptures.
The Gateway of India
This is a historic monument, which was built during British Raj, in Mumbai. This monument is a world famous monument, and is served as one of the best tourist places in Mumbai. This gate is situated in south Mumbai, at the end of Chhatrapati Shivaji marg.
The Gateway later was served to allow entry and access to India, and acted as entrance to India. This is also referred to as TAJ MAHAL of Mumbai. This monument has faced terror attacks many times and now this monument is city’s top tourist attraction.
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is situated in Colaba, just opposite to the Gateway Of India, Mumbai. This is a five star hotel. This Taj hotel belongs to Tata group, and they own a group of chains of the same hotel. But this is their flagship property. This hotel is very much famous In all over the world, and industrialists, famous personalities, elite class, film stars etc. from all over the world when come to Mumbai, most of the time make their stay in this hotel only. The famous holly wood star, when came for the shooting for mission impossible, stayed in this hotel only.
This hotel is a part of the Taj Hotels, Palaces and Resorts. These are two buildings, which make up for Taj Hotel; these are the Taj Mahal Palace and the Tower. It is believed that Mr. Tata was once refused to enter a big grand hotel, and after that incident, he decided to construct his own.
This hotel was being captured by a group of terrorists, on 26 November, 2008. That terrorist attack ended after 3 days and this hotel got very much damaged by that attack and was renovated later. After the attack, the U.S. president, BARACK OBAMA, was the first foreign head to stay in that hotel. This hotel is one of the best tourist places in Mumbai.
Fashion Street
Fashion Street is in south Mumbai, on MG Road, at the backside of the Taj Hotel Palace. This street is also a famous tourist attraction. On this street, there are about 470 – 500 clothing and other shops. These shops are mostly attracted by foreign or national tourists, and not much by local residents. The rates of all the goods are too high here. If you want to buy something from here, you have to do a lot of bargaining, this is recommended.
In Fashion Street, you can get a variety of clothing stuff to buy. You can get all ready made t-shirts, shirts, pants, jeans, for both, men and women, in almost all sizes. But only thing is that the price of every ready made thing is too high. It is very much recommended and you can take it as an advice or a tip that m\if you want to buy something or the other from this fashion street, please do bargaining and start your bargaining from half the price of what is being quoted by the seller.
This fashion street is almost open for all days from 11 in the morning to 8 at night. This street gets very much crowded, and best time to visit this street is afternoon.
Marine Drive
Marine Drive is a 4.3 Kms long, c-shaped road along the marine, in south Mumbai. This road is of concrete and is six-laned. This is also one of the most visited tourist places, and the scenic view of this place at night is unforgettable. Marine drive is also known as Queen’s Necklace as the night view of this place from an elevate height will appear like c-shape, which resemble like a necklace. A large number of events take place at this place and this place is most visited by the tourists, especially at night as night view of this place is very heart touching.
Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir
This Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir temple is a Lord Shri Ganesh’s temple. This is basically a Hindu temple, which is situated in prabhadevi, Mumbai. This temple is visited by a large number of pilgrims. Most of the people go with bare feet to visit this temple; this includes many famous Bollwood personalities such as Mr. Amitabh Bachan, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, etc. this temple has a small MANDAP, with the shrine of Siddhi Vinayak. It is said that if you make a wish in the ear of that shrine of Lord Ganesh, your wish will come true.
Juhu Beach
Juhu beach is one of the most visited tourist places in Mumbai. This beach is mostly visited by the tourists and local residents in evening. You can enjoy street food which includes Pani Puri, bhelpuri, chaats, etc. Many bollywood celebrities can be found here jogging, exercising, or chilling out. From this beach you can also enjoy watching airplanes, talking off just above your head.
There are many luxury and big hotels, restaurants and bars in juhu. Many famous Bollywood personalities also recite in Juhu which includes, Amitabh bachan, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachan, Anupam Kher, etc. now Juhu is being referred to as the Beverly Hills of Bollywood.
