Hold onto your pixels. Your old digital camera is about to become as dated as a Polaroid. With the advent of Android-powered cameras equipped with Wi-Fi, you won’t have to carry a camera, a phone and a laptop. With the new Samsung Galaxy camera, being introduced in the fourth quarter of 2012, you can take quality photos, surf the Internet and enhance your photos–all with one device.
About the GalCam
The Galaxy camera, nicknamed the “Galcam“, is a 4.8-inch Android-powered camera with Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G connectivity, and a quad-core SoC. The camera function has a 16-megapixel sensor with a 21x zoom. Instead of the small display of a traditional digital camera, this Glam Girl has a display that looks almost like an iPad, with a variety of instant photo-sharing options, including Instagram. You can even shoot, edit and upload videos with the device. Samsung, the Korean-based electronics manufacturer of the Galaxy line of smartphones, announced the new product at the IFA Conference in Berlin on August 29, 2012.
Advantages to the Samsung Galaxy Camera
Samsung’s new “smart” camera has plenty of advantages, in addition to not having to lug one more device around in order to get quality images. Just a few advantages of this camera, which is targeted to both amateurs and professionals, are:
- Powered by Android. The world’s leading smartphone operating system, Android, makes this device both easy to use and formatted in a familiar way
- Wireless capabilities. You can connect to the Web anywhere your wireless carrier has reception
- Lightweight. The device is less than one inch wide and even with the zoom lens extended, fits easily in the palm of your hand
- All photo functions in one place. The Galcam allows you to take a photo, crop or otherwise enhance it, and send it to your friends or post on the Internet
- 65 editing features. Everything you need to create professional-looking images is right in this device
- Additional apps. Just like a smartphone, you can upload and store hundreds of additional applications on this device
- Full screen view finder. Aren’t you tired of those tiny camera display windows? The Galcam has a 4.77″ display
- Voice control. No more trying to figure out how to turn off the flash or adjust the lighting. You just tell the camera what you want it to do. How cool is that?
- Enhanced storage. With the Galcam, you no longer have to store your photos in the order they were taken. You can create separate folders and galleries as well as move images around
How to Get a Samsung Galaxy Camera
The Samsung Galcam will be available from wireless providers beginning in late 2012, similar to how smartphones are distributed. (An exact date has yet to be announced.)
Have you put the Galcam on your holiday wish list? If so, what’s the feature you’re most excited about?
