With Windows 8, Microsoft introduces new features and developments which made their way through the internal implementation and test cycles. This article lists 6 new features in Microsoft Windows 8.
A New User Interface
The old Windows start menu has been replaced by a start screen. All of your programs appear as tiles on this screen. Similar to the start menu in recent versions of Windows, you may easily search for the program you want to run. Think of the start screen as a convenient way to launch your applications from one single location.
Better Performance
Windows 8 was designed from the ground up to be run on tablets. With this in mind, ram usage of suspended programs (applications that are running, but you are not using at the moment) have been significantly reduced. Also, support has been added to allow much of the desktop functionality to take advantage of your machine’s graphics processing unit. This means your video card will be able to help speed things up in Windows 8.
Windows Store Apps
This is probably one of the coolest features in Windows 8. You can now buy Windows Store apps from Microsoft’s app store. If you’ve purchased apps on a smartphone, then you’ll recognize the ease that comes with trying out new apps in this new feature. There are plenty of free apps in the store and there’s no need to worry about wasting money on paid apps: you get to try them out for free before spending your hard-earned money!
Better Cloud Integration
Windows 8 takes advantage of online storage to allow you to sync your data across multiple computers. You will no longer have to worry at all about manually moving photos, settings, and other application data between different computers. Plus, you’ll have easy access to 7GB of free online storage with Microsoft’sSkyDrive.
A New File System
Windows 8 has a new file system, ReFS (Resilient File System), under the hood. It will automatically keep your files safe and sound. It checks your files in the background and when it detects errors, it will repair bad sectors and move your data to preserve it. A welcome change is that it is no longer necessary to perform hard drive scans when your PC boots up. These scans take place while you’re using your computer.
Built-In Security
Windows 8 comes with free antivirus software: Microsoft Security Essentials is preinstalled and protects your computer from viruses the first moment Windows 8 runs on your computer.
