Xiaomi’s new affordable top smartphone contains Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 with 5G support.

Xiaomi has introduced its new Android smartphone Poco F2 Pro. Like the Poco F1 from 2018, the new device also offers high-quality equipment at an above-average price.

The Poco F2 Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels – Xiaomi used an LC panel in the previous model. The screen supports HDR10 +, users have to do without a frame rate higher than 60 Hz. A fingerprint sensor is installed under the display.

The Poco F2 Pro does not have a notch or a hole for a front camera. Instead, the front-facing camera with 20 megapixels is in a module that extends when in use. The camera module on the back has a total of four lenses. The main camera has a wide-angle lens and a 64 megapixel sensor (Sony IMX 686). There is also a super wide-angle camera with 13 megapixels, a macro camera with 5 megapixels and a depth sensor with 2 megapixels. Videos can be recorded in up to 8K.

Snapdragon 865 and 5G

Inside the Poco F2 Pro is Qualcomm’s current top SoC Snapdragon 865 with eight cores and 5G support. A cooling system with ten temperature sensors and a large heat pipe is designed to protect the chip from overheating. The smartphone is optionally available with 6 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 128 GB of flash memory (UFS 3.1) or 8 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 256 GB of flash memory (UFS 3.1). The device is delivered with Android 10 and Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 user interface.

The battery has a nominal charge of 4,700 mAh and can be quickly charged with 30 watts; the smartphone should be charged from zero to 63 percent in 30 minutes. The Poco F2 Pro cannot be charged wirelessly. The smartphone has a jack for headphones and an IR blaster that can be used to remotely control TVs and other electrical devices.

The Poco F2 Pro with 6 GB of RAM should originally cost 500 euros, the model with 8 GB RAM 600 euros. However, only the 6 GB variant is available on the Xiaomi website, which is more expensive than planned at 600 euros.
